Your are born, go to school and then work for the rest of your life. This is the unpopular analogy about human existence.

In recent past, the Kenyan media has been awash with news that one third of academic certificates of employed Kenyans are either fake or were acquired fraudulently. Those with foreign qualifications are required to prove that they are authentic. This applies to both locals and foreigners in Kenya who either want to further their studies, seek employment or is a requirement for their professional endeavors.

In Kenya, the authorized validation and accreditation government entities include:

  • Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA) that is responsible for validation and equation of high school and technical certificates for those wishing to join colleges and universities in Kenya
  • Commission for University Education (CUE) that deals with recognition and equation of post-secondary academic certificates, especially Degrees and above.

As per the CUE guidelines, for one to have their degree recognized in Kenya, they need to submit verified copies through the commission’s portal, pay some fee, among other requirements.

Each university and examination body has  their own systems for validation of their academic papers. If you are in Nairobi, one of the most convenient methods is to visit the British Council.

Have your UK Academic Papers Validated at the British Council

The procedure is straight forward as follows:

  • Make 2 copies of your academic papers. For example, you may have your certificate and two results slips. Make 2 copies of each
  • Validation of each document costs KSh 250. Assuming you have a certificate and 2 transcripts, this will cost you a total of KSh 750
  • Present the hard cash to any Standard Chartered bank branch. Kindly note that MPesa or any other digital money transfer service is not allowed. Just head over to the counter and request for a British Council Virtual Account Deposit Slip. Once you’ve filled in your details, present the slip and hard cash to the teller for receipting.
  • Note that validation of academic certificates is only done on Thursdays at the British Council. This is the only day you can go there for the service
  • Physically present your original Academic documents, copies of the documents, bank deposit slip and your original ID to British Council in 5 Upper hill Road, Nairobi
  • The verification process is on demand, meaning that with all systems running optimally, standby personnel and no ques you should be done in under 10 minutes.
